McKensie Callahan
Major: Business Administration - Enterprise Management
About me:
I was born and raised in Blue Springs, MO, which is only about a 30-minute drive east from UMKC. There, I attended Blue Springs High School, where I participated in dance team, choir, and forensics (the speech kind, not the science kind.) Being unsure of what I would like to study after high school, I was drawn to UMKC for both the location as well as the wide variety of credible schools within the university. / During my time at UMKC, I've volunteered with Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the UMKC Women's Center, and the Ewing-Marion Kauffman School, all of which were invaluable experiences. Along with those roles, I also taught dance to ages 2-5 at a dance studio in Independence, Missouri for three years, and worked as a Resident Assistant at UMKC for two years. Beyond those pieces of involvement, I was afforded the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Ireland during the summer of 2013, which spurred my love for traveling. / Currently, my involvement includes working as a Writing Consultant at the UMKC Writing Studio, serving as the Johnson Hall Desk Manager through UMKC Residential Life, and working on local and international service projects with the UMKC chapter of Enactus.
I am keeping my options pretty open for after graduation. I know that I would like to get involved with a non-profit organization, that I want to travel overseas as much as possible, and that I would absolutely love to get to work with kids. Those three guidelines are as specific as I'm allowing myself to get with my after-school aspirations; I'd like to stay open to whatever opportunities life will lend me. Eventually, much later in life, I'd like to open my own coffee/tea/bubble tea shop.
Coffee is basically my number one passion in life. It's the only thing that I have been consistently interested in for as long as I've loved it, which is going on nine years. / As you can probably tell from my previous answers, I also have a "thing" for traveling. I need to do more of it!I firmly believe that traveling to, and experiencing the culture of, another country is one of the most transformative experiences an individual can have in life. / Lastly, I suppose it would be sort of lying if I didn't mention my die-hard feminism in response to this question. I often forget to mention this detail of my life because it just seems so common sense to me. If you haven't seen Emma Watson's "He for She" speech, recently presented to the UN, then that should definitely be the next item added to your To Do list.

Activities: Resident Assistant at UMKC Residential Life; Student Ambassador & Student Director School of Education Student Ambassadors; Historian
of Mortar Board 2014-2015
About me:
From Lenexa, KS, graduated from SMNW in 2012. Originally came to UMKC as a Music Performance major (Jazz) in the Conservatory. Had a change of heart and am now in the Bloch School, planning on graduating in May 2016.
Currently getting everything in order to apply to Law school next fall, for entry in Fall 2016. If, for some reason, I don't find an opportunity I would like to in that scenario, I'll probably end up in the Northeast trying to get started in investment banking or private equity.
Currently planning on doing some overseas projects in Beijing and Shanghai this coming Spring, so getting prepared for that is pretty exciting.

Major: Criminal Justice/Criminology and Political Science
About me:
I am a non-traditional student that returned after ten years away from classes to finish my degree and pursue a professional degree upon completion of my undergraduate work. I am also a new father of a healthy baby boy born at the end of July. I am a lifelong Kansas City resident that has resided in various areas of the Northland since birth.
Upon completing my B.A. in the spring, I will be attending law school. I am anticipating remaining here at UMKC to pursue the joint J.D./M.P.A. degree program in tandem with the Bloch School.
I am an avid college basketball fan and almost view KU men's basketball as a religion of sorts. I am that passionate about it! Aside from that, i am always up for a candid discussion/debate about current affairs and the current political landscape of our nation.

Major: Chemistry and Psychology
Activities: Student Representative of Student Athlete Advisory Committee; Student Athlete with UMKC Cross Country and Track Team;
About me:
I graduated in 2011 from Nixa High School in Nixa, MO. My parents and seventeen year old sister still live in Nixa. I have a cat here at school named Roo. I was a competitive gymnast and soccer player growing up, but now I run on the cross country and track team here at UMKC. Since joining the team, I have been All-American twice, and I have represented the United States twice in international competitions. I have also been Academic All-American four times. I am very passionate about athletics and hope to have a career involving athletics one day. I am also a huge Starbucks addict.
After graduating I plan to pursue one of two paths. Assuming my running is going well, I would like to pursue running professionally for awhile and take a shot a making an Olympic team. If that does not work out, or afterword, I plan to attend medical school in hopes of becoming an orthopedic specializing in sports medicine. My dream job would be to work for either the Olympic Training Center or a major sports team.
Traveling! I am very passionate about traveling and have been out of the country many times. My last two trips were to England and Canada. I have been to Europe three times and cannot get enough. I could honestly see myself living in London for awhile.

About me:
I was born and raised in Springfield, MO. I have one older brother that I live with here in KC and 3 dogs at home in Springfield. I attended Catholic schools from preschool through high school (yay uniforms). I played lots of sports growing up, but soccer was my favorite and my best sport. So when I decided to attend UMKC I asked permission from the soccer coach to walk on the team. It was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Our team is a family and we have had some awesome adventures together.
I am in the process of applying to pharmacy school right now, so I hope to start in the Fall of 2015. I am not completely sure what realm of pharmacy I will want to work in once I finish pharmacy school; I will most likely stick with retail pharmacy, but research would be a pretty cool option as well. I also want to get married and become a mom someday (I consider it a career).
FOOD. It's the quickest way to my heart. Most of the time I am talking about food from Springfield that I miss, because I am not home very often. Andy's Frozen Custard is probably my favorite thing in the world to eat. I would be happy eating it for every meal for the rest of my life. I am patiently waiting for Andy's to appear in KC (it's supposed to be happening soon). Chinese and Mexican food from Springfield are other common food topics for me as well.

Major: BLA (Biology minor, Chemistry minor, Psychology and Spanish focus), Pre-medicine
Activities: Treasurer (2013-2014), Event Coordinator (2013- 2014) & Student President (2014-2015) of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; Treasurer of UMKC Pre-Medical Society (2014-2015); Public Relations Officer of UMKC Spanish Club (Fall 2013); Biochemistry Tutor (Fall 2013) with UMKC Biological Sciences; Member of Golden Key International Honor Society; Biology 108Lab Teaching Assistant (2015)
About me:
I went to high school in the Kansas City area, but I initially went away for college. After transferring to UMKC in Spring of 2012 from a small private university, I changed my major from Biology to Liberal Arts so that I could pursue my broad range of interests and take all the classes that interested me as well as the prerequisite classes for medical school.
My goal is to attend medical school and become a physician. All I've ever wanted to be was a doctor, so I aim to make that happen. Right now I envision myself becoming a primary care physician and I have hopes to travel with Doctors Without Borders at some point in my career because I believe in helping everyone, regardless of their citizen status.
I can talk to anyone about anything and be content, but there are certainly some topics I tend to get too excited about. Zumba dance-- I've been going to Zumba since high school, I became a Zumba instructor in 2010, and I started my own Zumba Abs class in 2011 at the YMCA before transferring to UMKC. I'm still crazy about it and I think there's no better cardio workout in terms of sheer fun. Healthy habits-- I've been jestingly labeled the "health police" in the past because I'm always game to give out health advice if asked. I grew up learning about healthy eating, vitamins, and exercise so healthy living has become a way of life that I hope to share with my future patients. The topic at hand-- I love learning new stuff, so I'm always excited to hear what people's current favorite book is or what has been a positive influence in their life lately.
